The Redwood River Watershed (RRW) is located in southwestern Minnesota and spans 563,471 acres of land all located in portions of Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone, Redwood and Yellow Medicine Counties. The RRW Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan will be implemented through a Joint Powers Agreement involving the counties and SWCDs of Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone, Redwood and Yellow Medicine. This Joint Powers Board is the RCRCA Board that meets the first Thursday of the month (meeting day is subject to change as needed).
The Redwood One Watershed, One Plan (1W1P) planning process started in 2024 and was completed in 2026. The 1W1P program is administered by the Board of Water and Soil Resources and is funded through the Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment section of the Minnesota Legacy and Trust Funds. Thirty-three percent of state sales tax revenue from the Legacy Amendment is allocated to the Clean Water Funds which are required to be spent on protecting, enhancing and restoring water quality in lakes, rivers, streams and groundwater systems.

In this watershed, the goal is to reduce Nitrogen reaching the Minnesota River by 251,700 lbs./yr. Practices that achieve this goal also work hand-in-hand with phosphorus and sediment reductions.
In this watershed, the goal is to reduce Phosphorus reaching the Minnesota River by 13,800 lbs./yr. This will be achieved by implementing many different agricultural and non-structural practices.
In this watershed, the goal is to reduce sediment reaching the Minnesota River by 79,900 tons/yr. This will be achieved by implementing many different practices including but not limited to soil health practices, WASCOBs, and Grade Stabilizations.
In this watershed, the goal is to increase soil health practices including but not limited to cover crops, no-till/strip till, and pasture and hay planting by 22,500 acres. This goal will also assist in N, P and TSS reductions.
In this watershed, the goal is to increase temporary or permanent water storage before reaching the Minnesota River by 4,000 ac-ft. This will be achieved by implementing many different practices including but not limited to WASCOBs, Ponds, or Grade Stabilizations.
In this watershed, the goal is to fix streambanks that are in excess disrepair. This goal will be achieved by completing 2,000 linear-ft of streambank stabilization projects such as riprap or gabion basket walls.
